At Firecracker, we believe change starts with bold conversations, and Africa Scotland Business Network’s Women’s Lunch on 17 September was the perfect stage for that. The panel discussion brought honesty, wisdom, and energy that left everyone in the room inspired.

The powerhouse panel, Anchen Laubscher, Laura Ferguson, and Sally Nhlanhla, shared stories of leadership, resilience, and growth that reminded us of one essential truth: It begins with us. Every choice, every boundary, every mindset shift starts from within.

1. Flexibility is Our Superpower

We’re built with flex, not just in our bodies but in our minds. This adaptability is what allows us to manage multiple roles, step into leadership, and create lives that are rich and meaningful. Flexibility is about knowing when to stretch, when to hold firm, and when to let go.

2. Agency is Always in Our Hands

We have the power to choose. Every decision we make, from how we lead, to where we draw boundaries, to how we balance our priorities, shapes the outcomes of our lives and the lives of those around us. Agency is the anchor that keeps us grounded and intentional.

3. Reject the Victim Mindset

We are not powerless. Seeing ourselves as victims takes away our control and limits our growth. By recognising the roles we choose to play and owning those choices, we free ourselves from resentment and step into true empowerment.

The Superhero Blueprint

The message of the day was clear: women already have the superpowers needed to thrive. Flexibility, agency, and ownership of our choices enable us to rise, not as perfect figures, but as real humans navigating complexity with courage and grace.

Being a superwoman doesn’t mean doing it all. It means deciding which pillars of your life to hold up at any given time and doing so with strength.
